SteamDolls: Order of Chaos is a dark and violent steampunk horror stealth action platforming metroidvania with the main character voiced by Solid Snake himself – David Hayter!
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer last November, SteamDolls: Order of Chaos is a brutal and very stylish steampunk metroidvania with stealth and horror elements In the game you take on the role of The Whisper – a deadly assassin, thief and anarchist voiced by Metal Gear’s David Hayter. Your adventure will take you through a vast interconnected steampunk city unraveling a dark conspiracy that could shake it to its core.
The Whisper has a nice collection of skills that make him particularly fast and deadly, including melee attacks, ranged attacks, sneaking, wall-sliding and air-dashing. The stealth attacks are particularly cool as not only are you treated to a beautifully animated mini-cutscene, but they also restore your health.
There was a touch of the supernatural in the last build of, but the latest build of SteamDolls really ups the ante and goes all out horror in the second half. Rather than fighting patrolling guards you’ll deal with grotesque abominations, steampunk cyborgs and a boss fight with a huge monster. Also, now and again you’re plagued with visions of a mysterious flying naked woman.
It’s a fantastic game with some excellent character/monster design, beautiful artwork and satisfyingly brutal stealth action gameplay. The dark, grimy and gruesome steampunk city of SteamDolls is a fascinating place to explore and is full of interesting surprises. Also, David Hayter’s voice work is excellent and in the full game he’ll be reunited with Christopher Randolph – the voice of Otacon!
