Tanglewood is a brand new retro puzzle platforming adventure that’s coming to the Sega Genesis (a.k.a. the Mega Drive). Yep, you read that right! Nearly two decades after Sega discontinued production of the Genesis a new game is coming out for it, and from what played of it so far, it’s pretty good!
Tanglewood is an old school puzzle platforming adventure in which you play a charming little woodland creature called Nymn who fell asleep and got separated from her pack. She must now make her way through the dark and dangerous woodlands, solving puzzles and using evasion and trickery to avoid dangerous predators as she attempts to survive until dawn.
Tanglewood is coming to Windows, Mac and Linux as well, but to get the full nostalgic retro platforming experience from it you’ll really have to play it on a Sega Genesis – you can even pre-purchase a cartridge version via the Kickstarter page now. The Prototype comes in the form of a ROM file, which works well with any Genesis emulator (we used Fusion), and features a whole level of retro platforming goodness that plays a little like a mix of The Lion King, Another World and Sonic the Hedgehog.
It’s still very early in development and is designed to run technology that’s nearly three decades old so has a few rough edges, but it shows a lot of promise. A great new puzzle platforming adventure for a classic gaming machine.
Note: Roll the coloured balls into the nests of leaves, then press the action button to temporarily transform and be able to use special abilities.
