The Blob is a fun little plaftomging adventure where you control a sticky pink blob that consumes its enemies to maintain its body mass.
Created by students at the DigiPen Institute of Technology, The Blob is a fast paced pixel art platformer where you control a sentient slime attempting to escape a heavily guarded facility. Your blob can jump, stick to surfaces and climb walls and ceilings but as it moves along a surface it leaves some of its mass in its slimy trail. This means you can quickly shrink out of existence if you’re not careful, especially if you’re hit by an enemy projectile.
Jumping is a good way of preserving your mass and even better, you can land on enemies to absorb them and regain some of your blob’s mass. At the end of each level you get a ranking based on your speed, enemies killed and collectables collected. If you die it’s unlikely you’ll achieve an S ranking but the slime from your last run will remain on the surfaces you touched, allowing you to move across them without losing mass.
With eleven levels to play through in total, it doesn’t take long to play through The Blob, but achieving S ranks in them all offer a nice amount of challenge. It’s a great game, with a great art style, fun gameplay, challenging level design and one of the more adorable little blobs of sticky pink slime you’re likely to see. A delightful blobby adventure that will stick with you!
