The Lady Puppet is a beautifully crafted RPG Maker based psychological horror game set in a mysterious land where everyone’s been turned into human puppets, including you!
In The Lady Puppet you take on the role of a young woman who awakens in a mysterious land called Clawhill with wires attached to her arms, like a life-sized puppet. A mysterious masked stranger offers you guidance and asks you to go in search of the ominously named “Spookhouse”. She claims you’ll be able to find a way out of this nightmare, but can she be trusted?
You’re not the only puppet in Clawhill, in-fact the land is littered with dead puppets that have killed themselves by cutting their wires off. There are also freaky psychotic puppets that will chase you and maul you if they spot you. Thankfully there are also a few helpful puppets, who you can summon to aid you with tasks like moving boulders or squeezing through tight spaces. Or you can just use them as bait for the psycho puppets!
The current build of The Lady Puppet takes around an hour to play through and really impresses with its detailed environments, inventive puzzles and unsetting audio design. It’s the story and the lore that really gets you hooked though – the writing is excellent, the characters are well formed and the strange puppet-filled world is very intriguing. Your puppet wires appear to symbolise the fears and self doubt that are holding your back, but cutting them off are really not an option. It looks like the answers lie in the Spookhouse. Highly recommended.
