There is No Light – Alpha Demo

There is No Light is a dark pixel art action adventure where you battle giant spiders, grotesque abominations and bloodthirsty demonic forces in a post-apocalyptic underground world that reacts to your actions.

In There is No Light you step into the shoes of a man who has the fate of the world in his hands – able to bring it to order or herald its destruction. It’s a world that’s been devastated by a global catastrophe, with most survivors now sheltering in small underground communities. Your actions and your conversation choices can help to shape the world and yourself.

The There Is No Light demo build features a huge chunk of the game and will take well over an hour to play through. Your character has access to three weapons (gauntlets, a sword and a pike), each of which has a different reach, speed of attack and special ability. The combat isn’t quite as intricate as the likes of Dark Souls, but it is a very challenging game where even the weaker enemy can do serious damage if you’re not careful.

It could do with a little more variety in the combat as most of the time you just get into a rhythm of attacking, dodging back and repeating. Perhaps some different attack combinations or a form of ranged combat would help. Other than that though, it’s shaping up to be a fantastic game. The pixel art animation is superb, it offers up a real challenge and the world is a fascinating place to explore. Highly recommended.
