There You Are is a beautiful and touching little stop-motion inspired narrative driven adventure about a teenage girl who is dealing with the grief of the loss of her mother.
Created by a group of students at USC Games, There You Are is a short and beautifully animated narrative-driven adventure that follows the story of a teenage girl called Su, who is struggling to get over the death of her mother. Su’s mother died five years ago and her father is trying to move on with his life, but it’s still too early for Su. Things come to a head when their long-running yearly camping trip is cancelled and Su has to try and face her grief. There are two different endings depending on her decisions.
Taking around 15 minutes to play through, it’s a well crafted little adventure with a fantastic art style and a lot of heart. The quality of the character animation and environmental design is superb and the voice acting is very well done. Su does feel more than a little selfish at times, but she is a teenager who is dealing with a very tragic loss, so it’s understandable. It makes for a very emotional experience and it’s told beautifully. Highly recommended.
