They Speak From The Abyss is a surreal dungeon crawling RPG psychological horror adventure where a young woman finds herself trapped in a cursed land filled with tortured souls of the damned.
In They Speak From The Abyss you follow the story of Vanessa, a young woman who has recently moved into a new apartment and is haunted by dreams of someone close to her. The house is a bit of a mess, with most of her belongings still in moving boxes. However, when she enters one room, she finds a weird psychoanalyst monster who sends her on a journey through a nightmarish cursed land. Her journey will take her on an exploration of the human psyche and hopefully act as a strange form of therapy for Vanessa.
The gameplay in They Speak From The Abyss is fairly simple – it controls much like a traditional Eye of the Beholder style dungeon crawler, but without you actually having to fight the monsters. You can examine or talk to the various grotesque monsters you meet and around the world there are various black hearts that can be collected to open up gateways to new areas.
It’s a capitaving experience exploring the surreal nightmarish world of They Speak From The Abyss. It’s got a very unsettling atmosphere and the artwork and monster designs are fantastic. You never know what oddities you’ll encounter around the next corner and the overlying narrative is very intriguing. Highly recommended.
