This is the Zodiac Speaking is a dark psychological thriller where you investigate the murders of Zodiac, America’s most famous serial killer who was never caught.
Currently in development by Punch Drunk Games (creators of Apocalipsis), This is the Zodiac Speaking is a horror-thiller adventure that combines stealth and investigation elements as you follow the footsteps of the elusive Zodiac killer. In the game you take on the role of Robert Hartnell, an investigative journalist who one day receives a phone call that starts with the memorable line “hello, this is the Zodiac speaking”. You now track his movements, visit crime scenes and piece together evidence to figure out what happened there. However, Zodiac stalks the crime scenes so you have to avoid him while piecing together the evidence.
The demo build of This is the Zodiac Speaking takes around 30 minutes to play through and features a prologue, a psychiatry session and a case of a sighting of him at a gas station in Napa County, California. During the main case avoiding Zodiac isn’t too tricky in itself, but you also have to gather clues and solve the intricate puzzle of what happened at the scene – a little like Return of the Obra Din, but with the added concern that you might round a corner and come fact to face with one of America’s most wanted serial killer!
It takes a little while to wrap your head around the fact that the Zodiac is stalking his own crime scene while you investigate it, but it’s an interesting concept and it makes for a very tense experience. It also looks fantastic, with beautiful lighting effects that give the game a very cinematic vintage 70’s feel. See if you can solve the mystery of the Zodiac killer.
