Tormented Souls is a slightly cheesy, but entertaining and unsettling fixed-perspective person survival horror adventure where you investigate the disappearance of a couple of twin girls in a mysterious mansion.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer during the closed Beta sign up, Tormented Souls is a Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark inspired old school survival horror game set in a spooky mansion inhabited by grotesque abominations. In the game you take on the role of a young woman who goes in search of some missing twins in an old abandoned mansion. However, soon after she gets there she is knocked out and awakens naked in a bathtub with one of her eyes missing. She’ll now need to explore the mansion, solve puzzles and fight monsters as she tries to get to the bottom of what’s going on and make her escape.
It’s an entertaining horror adventure with some nice twists, inventive puzzles and lots of classic survival horror tropes for fans of the genre. The plot is pretty silly, the dialogue is weirdly written and the voice acting is pretty rough, but this adds a charming B-movie cheesiness to the proceedings – much like the early Resident Evil games. Definitely worth dipping into if you’re looking for a bit of old school survival horror.
