Tricky Keys is a challenging little pixel art platformer that plays out on a computer that’s been infected by a virus that can take control of your movement.
Created for the GMTK Game Jam 2020, in Tricky Keys you take control of a mouse cursor that has to reach the recycle bin of each level of an antivirus program to remove a malicious virus from the computer. A lot of the levels look fairly simple initially, but the virus has a knack of making them exponentially harder by messing with your controls.
The virus behaves differently in each level, with it able to block the use of certain keys (such as not being able to move right) or continually press certain keys (such as the jump button). You need to find a way to work around the challenges the virus throws at you to reach the trash in each level.
It’s a fun little game with a quirky premise and some very creative (and challenging) level design. The pixel art animation is excellent and the faux desktop setting is delightful. Far more fun than running a McAfee virus scan anyway!
