In Unhappening you control Anethus, a manifestation of a dying man’s consciousness navigating surreal landscapes painted in haunting oil-painterly visuals inspired by artists like Zdzisław Beksiński. You’ll solve environmental challenges using temporary mechanical companions who help push, pull, smash, carry and swing through obstacles while constantly fleeing encroaching darkness that brings instant death. The game explores mature themes of extinction, guilt, and false messiahs as you traverse dynamic environments searching for identity and accountability within a symbolic ecosystem of machines and consequences.
