Valfaris: Mecha Therion is a heavy metal 2.5D shoot ‘em up set in the Valfaris universe, where you unleash mecha hell on giant alien monsters.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion is a spin-off/sequel to Valfaris, which swaps action platforming for classic R-Type style 2.5D shoot ‘em up action. In the game Therion continues his hunt for Lord Vroll using a heavily armed flying mech. As you make your way through the levels you’ll battle swarms of enemies and big bosses, and you’ll unlock an assortment of weapons to customize your loadout with.
The mech is equipped with an arsenal of upgradeable guns and secondary abilities, as well as melee weapons that you can use to deal some heavy duty close-up damage. Your guns are very powerful, but in a clever touch you need to recharge them by killing enemies with your melee weapons – so you can’t just hang back at the left side of the screen and blast everything at a safe distance.
The demo build of Valfaris: Mecha Therion features one large level that takes around 15-20 minutes to play through. The new 2.5D visual style may not be quite as impressive as the original’s pixel art style, but it still looks pretty spectacular and the arcade shoot ‘em up gameplay is a blast. You feel satisfactorily overpowered while still feeling vulnerable and the recharge system and weapon loadouts add a nice amount of depth. Highly recommended.
