Wild Dogs is a fantastic Game Boy styled Contra inspired retro run ‘n gun shooter where a soldier and his faithful doggie set out to save the world from an alien invasion.
In Wild Dogs you follow the adventure of Major Frank “Pumpkinhead” Williams and his cute little doggie Teddy as they set out to thwart an alien invasion. The gameplay is much like Contra (even down to the power-ups), but between each side-scrolling level the game shakes things up a bit with some other forms of arcade shooting action (such as a helicopter flying level in the demo).
It’s shaping up to be a fantastic homage to the arcade classics it’s inspired by, with fast paced gameplay, excellent pixel artwork, plenty of variety, big bosses and a superb soundtrack. It could perhaps do with significantly reducing the hit points you’re allowed as it makes the game a little too easy, but it’s just as tough as Contra if you’re trying to do a no hit run. Highly recommended.
